Can I scan?

Yes. As part of the Aotearoa People's Network rollout we are installing flatbed scanners at selected libraries. Check with staff if scanning is available at your library.

Step by step guide to using the scanner Using the Scanner.pdf

for display at library

Option 1 - Scanner Folder

You can scan and then access the file via a shortcut on the desktop of the local APN computers "Scanner Folder".

Each new scan goes into a new sub-folder so you may need to identify your scan from the time/date on the folder/file.

Scans are deleted overnight for the scanner folder (or you can choose to delete your scans).

Option 2 - USB Thumb Drive

You can also use a USB "thumb drive" (USB memory stick or flash drive) as the destination for you scans.  Use the "Scan to Media" option and insert your USB stick in the front of the scanner and follow the Scanner's onscreen instructions.

I want to email or upload the scanned image - what do I do?

APN recommends changing the settings on the scanner to reduce the data size.  The smaller the size the faster and easier to send or upload.   Read about how reducing the sizes also reduces the quality here.

Changing the scanner settings to reduce the data size

  • flat-bed scanner menu
  • select location to scan to
  • see More Scan Features
  • Scan Resolution set to 200 dpi
  • Image Compression set to high
