About CDs and DVDs

Where can I buy CD or DVD disks from?

You can purchase disks from stationery suppliers, electronic stores and supermarkets.  Check with library staff - they also might have disks for sale.

How much can I put onto a disk?

This depends on the type of disk you have. But a CD will hold about 700MB of data, a DVD will hold about 4.7GB of data and a dual layer DVD will hold about 8.5GB of data. But some brands and disks vary in capacity so check the label on the disk for more details.

Can I put more data/files onto my disk?

Yes and No. If you have a CD or DVD with “RW†on the label, then it can be written to many times, meaning you can add files to it again and again until it becomes full.

You can also erase the disk and copy content to it again.

If you have a CD or DVD with just “R†on the label, you can not erase the disk and you can not add content to the disk after it has been finalized.
