Anti-Virus software

The APN Public PCs are protected from viruses in a number of ways.

  • Desktop anti-virus software is installed on all Public PCs so viruses on disks and flash memory cards will be detected and quarantined
  • Internet traffic is scanned for viruses
  • A strict firewall policy prevents exploitation of network vulnerability
  • All changes made to the Public PC, including the possibility of a virus being introduced, are wiped when the computer is restarted

I think my file may be infected by a virus, what can I do?

You can scan for viruses and disinfect virus infected files using the Trend Micro OfficeScan antivirus software.

To scan, for example, your USB Flash drive ...

  • Right click the OfficeScan icon in the system tray, it’s a blue circle with a squiggle thru it at the bottom right of the screen
  • Select OfficeScan console
  • Tick the drive you wish to scan and click the scan button
  • Access to virus infected files is denied until the file can be successfully disinfected

A website I have connected to has detected the APN PC I am using has a virus, what should I do?

These sites are often hoaxes and should be ignored.  Try closing the web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) or restarting the PC.
